Global Youth Summit calendar
Events are open to members of any UIAA Member Federation. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult leader.
Before you sign up for any event, please check with your Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Foreign Office for travel advice on the country you are planning to visit. Some events might get fully booked before the application deadline, so it is best to apply early. We will list 2010 events and registration details as soon as they are made available. A list of the 2009 events is below, highlighting the wide variety of activities and locations.

March 1 – 7
International ski touring camp in Slovenia
Where: "Beautiful Komna", Slovenia
Who: Mountaineers between 17 and 29 years with basic ski touring experience.
Programme: Ski tours of varying difficulty to surrounding peaks over 2,000m. The participants will be divided into two groups based on the level of difficulty.
Price: €266 per person including accommodation and meals.
Accommodation: In own hut.

July 4 – 12
Youth mountaineering trekking in Abruzzo, Italy
Where: Abruzzo, Italy. Starts in Pescara
Who: Young hikers between 14 and 17 years old
Programme: 6-9 hours of hiking per day through the Majella, Morrone and Gran Sasso rock massifs. Visits to areas of natural and historical-cultural interest, social activities.
Price: 250 Euros
Accommodation: Hotels and schools.

July 6 – 16
International youth expedition to Mt. Elbrus
Where: Mt. Elbrus (5,642m), Caucasus, Russia
Who: Young mountaineers between 18 – 30. Participants must be in good health and have experience of being out in the mountains and sleeping in tents at low temperatures. The ascent is not technically difficult.
Programme: Shorter acclimatisation ascents and training on the glacier before the main ascent. Ski touring is possible.
Price: 330 Euros (includes accommodation, guiding, meals and permits) plus approximately 90 Euros for local transport. Also air travel to the International Airport of Mineralny Vody, Russia .
Accommodation: In tents.

International youth ascent of Mt. Kazbek
Where: Mt. Kazbek (5,047m), central Caucasus, Georgia.
Who: Young mountaineers aged 16-30 years. Participants need not have a lot of advanced mountaineering experience, but must be familiar with the basic use of crampons and ice axes and be in good physical condition.
Programme: Acclimatisation, trek, ascent.
Price: 230 Euro, which includes the entire programme, accommodation and food.
Accommodation: Tents and a meteorological station at 3,600m.

Trekking in South Africa's 'Dragon Mountains'
Where: Drakensberg, South Africa
Who: Young hikers aged 16–25 from UIAA member federations
Programme: Day-walks in the valleys and a choice of multi-day bivouac trips either to higher altitudes (around 3,000m) or in the foothills, called the Little Berg. The route choices will be adapted to the group's ability and experience, as well as weather conditions.
Price: 230 Euros per person, which includes transport from the airport, accommodation with members prior to the event if required, all meals during the camp and transport back to the airport, management and leadership.
Accommodation: In tents, which will be supplied

International Youth Rock Climbing and Mountaineering festival “Europe – Asia 2009”
Where: Area surrounding Guamka and Peak Fisht in Western Caucasus, Russia
Who: Climbers aged 18-25 years old
Programme: Festival of rock climbing, peak ascents and swimming in the Black Sea.
Price: 250 Euro plus travel expenses to Krasnodar airport or railway station.
Accommodation: Refuges and tents
Registration deadline: June 20

August 15 – 23
Climbing and hiking camp in the Romanian Carpathians
Where: Bicaz Gorges national park in Romania
Who: Young climbers aged 17 to 25, all abilities
Programme: Climbing and hiking. 200 climbing routes, bolted or classic, UIAA grade 3 to 10, 1 to 15 pitches, 15m to 300m high, with easy access. It will also be possible to do mountain-biking, caving, horse-riding, fishing and swimming.
Price: 230 Euros per participant, which includes programme, accommodation, full board and local transport.
Accommodation: Ecolog Hut (‘Cabana Ecolog’), altitude 700m.
