Kaushal Desai- Environment Label holder

Activity: Himalayan Mountaineering Programs Himalayan Alpine Climbing Courses Himalayan Backpacking Programs Himalayan Treks.

Experience: I'm Kaushal, an outdoor / climbing guide in the Himalayas. I love everything about it - its peaks, its wide, open spaces, the people and the opportunities it gives me as a climber and as a human being. What do I do there? Climb mountains, wander aimlessly across the Himalayas, herd sheep and horses or go whitewater kayaking... Basically, keep my adrenalin levels high for most of the year. My other passions include photography, reading and sitting on a rock by a stream and letting my mind wander. In the last five years, I've climbed more than 110 peaks between 6,000-7,500m that include a lot of first ascents on relatively unknown peaks in the lesser-known parts of the Himalayas, some so obscure that I am one of the few who knows of their existence. I regularly live out of glaciers in Ladakh, Gharwal, Himachal and Kumaon. Some of the relatively known peaks I have climbed alpine style are Nun (7135m), Kun (7048), Shivling (6543m), Bhagirathi (6856m), Chukhamba II (7070m), Trishul I (7120m), Ronti (6063m), White Needle (6420m), Pinnacle (6955m), Momstang Kangri 1(7526m). But I would rather talk about my more exciting future climbs than the past. I am a huge Mark Twain fan. My other heroes are Thoreau, Muir, Gaston Rebuffat, Bonatti, Hermann Buhl, Yvon Chouinard, Fred Beckey and Jerzy Kukuczka. Chatting on instant messenger (when I am in civilization), meddling with gizmos, cooking and making elaborate plans in front of a topological map are high on my list of indoor pleasures. And when nothing else works, I know it's time to head back up to where I belong - above 14000ft... there's something up there.
