Growing pains

Children and adolescents are not mini-adults. Audry Morrison has some recommendations for monitoring the training of dedicated young climbers.
Climbing can be addictive, and climbers are often guilty of overtraining. In adult climbers this can lead to niggling injuries and a lack of progression, but the consequences for those still growing can be more serious.

Seminar reports 

In this section you can find reports from seminars on youth and mountaineering held by the Youth Commission.  At the seminars, participants are taught by international experts and exchange experiences, so that everyone can develop their skills on leadership, mountain training and safety.
 
2006 The mountain of youth- seminar for youth leaders

2005 Rocks are for everybody-route setting course in Russia
Part of a project with two goals: to run an educational course in route setting with international participation and to set new classified routes in the Ural for all styles of climbing in an environmentally considerate way.

Train the trainers- Youth Leader Education
A seminar for those who train youth leaders was organised in Wassen, Switzerland, by the Swiss Alpine Club as a member of the UIAA YC. The Swiss Alpine Club has an excellent training programme for young people in sport climbing.  Look here to find out more. Grant Information
This report provides details on opportunities for UIAA member associations and the UIAA to apply for EU grants for events and projects. There are usually not announced grants for sport, but sport activities can qualify if they are meeting the targets set out in the call for proposals (for example actions that combat discrimination, social exclusion etc.). Information on the latest calls for project proposals is available from the EU Europa website
