Climbers invited to international meet in Norway
11 Dec 2008
The Norwegian Alpine Club (NTK) is inviting two climbers from each UIAA member federation to take part in an international winter meet in the Lofoten islands, in the north of Norway, from March 8-15, 2009.
The theme for the meet is adventure, and the area has a lot of potential for new routes. There are even rumours that some peaks have not been ascended in winter. The conditions are good for climbing ice falls, Scottish-style mixed and granite rock climbing.
The local club, Lofoten Tindeklubb, will offer traditional northern Norwegian hospitality above the Arctic Circle. They will introduce the international guests to Norwegian-style climbing, help them find good routes and organise local transport by car or boat. Participants should be experienced climbers who can look after themselves in a cold climate.
Participants will stay at Kalle Hovedgård, where the organisers are promising fresh fish for dinner every day.
NTK will pay for accommodation, meals and local transport, so the only thing guests need to organise themselves is their travel arrangements to the Lofoten Islands. The closest airport is Svolvær Lufthavn, but you can also fly to Harstad/ Narvik Lufthavn, which is a couple of hours' drive from the venue. The hosts will pick you up from either airport.
Any questions should be addressed to the national federations of the climbers or to Marius Morstad at marius.morstad @ nih.no.
