Easy-to-use Safety Label search goes online

The UIAA has launched a search function allowing simple validation of certified climbing and mountaineering equipment.

This new easy-to-use Safety Label tool will benefit all stakeholders, including mountaineers, climbers, retailers and the general public. Users of the service are also encouraged to provide feedback and report any misuse of the label.

“The UIAA is keen to hand over the baton to the climbing community. This is an important step and we hope to continue making useful contributions in this area,” says the UIAA Safety Label Administrator, Valerie Herzig.

The simple validation and reporting mechanism will curtail misuse of the UIAA Safety certification process and therefore benefit the mountaineering community.

“In the past equipment buyers have not really been aware whether a product truly met the standards specified by UIAA. There have been many cases that I have witnessed personally,” says Dimitrios Karalis, a UIAA Safety Commission member from Greece.
