Competitions and first ascents in Russian festival programme
29 Apr 2009
The Russian Mountaineering Federation (RMF) is planning a three week long festival in Ergaki National Park, and invites two climbers from each country to take part.
The International Mountaineering Festival "Ergaki 2009" will be held in the Western Sayan Mountains (Krasnoyarsk Territory) of Russia, from July 5 to 29.
Those who would like to test their abilities can take part in various competitions; bouldering, a multi-pitch event for pairs and a mountaineering challenge. Those who would like to explore the area will have the opportunity to make first ascents and rock climb on peaks up to 3,000 m high.
The festival gives participants the chance to experience Mt. Belukha, which is the highest top of the Altai and The Krasnoyarsk Pillars, described as a Mecca of Russian rock climbing.
The RMF hopes that as many countries as possible will be represented with two climbers each.
Accommodation costs and local travel will be covered by the organisers. Participants must pay for travel from their own country to Krasnoyarsk, Russia.
If you would like to take part, please contact your national climbing federation and the Russian organisers. More details and contact information can be found in the invitation, or on the RMF web site . If you have any questions, please email the organisers. The registration deadline is June 1.
