SportAccord call for nominations for “Spirit of Sport” Award

Nominations are now being accepted for the “Spirit of Sport” Award, which honours those who have laboured, excelled and triumphed in favour of the spirit of sport.

The SportAccord, the International Sports Federations umbrella organisation, will present the award to individuals, organisations and special projects that have made major contributions to a better society through sport.

Up to four awards will be given out in three categories: individuals, organisations and projects. UIAA Member Federations can put forward nominations - through the UIAA - in each category.
 
Exceptional contribution

Two awards are given to individuals for their exceptional contribution to sport. One award honours a project that has been led by SportAccord Members, or in which SportAccord Members have taken part. The final award recognises an organisation that is not a member of SportAccord, but has had a beneficial impact on SportAccord Members.
 
All categories aim to honour those that have used sport to have a positive impact on the lives of others.

Winners will have displayed, through commitment and humanitarian spirit, an outstanding and lasting contribution to sport.
   
UIAA Member Federations are able to submit nominations where they believe the individual, project or organisation has displayed this level of sporting excellence and sportsmanship.

Deadline

Nominations should be sent to the UIAA by March 11 and the UIAA will forward the most suitable nominations to SportAccord. See the bottom of this article for submission details.
 
The SportAccord, formerly known as GAISF, is a forum for international sports organisations. It promotes closer links between its members, and co-ordinates and protects their common interests. The UIAA is the member for mountaineering sports.
 
The SportAccord Council created the Spirit of Sport Award in 2002 at a congress in Colarado Springs, United States. A SportAccord Commission selects the laureates and up to four awards are given every year at the General Assembly.
