Russia launches avalanche safety programme

28 Feb 2011

The Russian Mountaineering Federation (RMF) has launched a new training programme called the Avalanche Safety School (ASS).

The new programme of the RMF was presented to the outdoor community in November 2010 during the Ski Salon “Ertsog”. The first seminars on avalanche safety were conducted shortly thereafter in Minsk and Tomsk where more than 160 people took part. And several seminars are being conducted early this year in Moscow, Khibiny, Dombai.

The aim of the ASS is to pass on knowledge and skills of how to act in avalanche-prone conditions, introduce an "avalanche safety culture", and create a system to improve information on avalanche dangers in order to prevent accidents. Read more here.
