Youth climbing camp in Romania

A youth camp for young climbers of all abilities is being organised in Romania this summer. The area has over 200 climbing routes to choose from, and there will also be hiking and other mountain activities.
This international youth camp is taking place in Bicz Gorges national park in the Romanian Carpathians from August 16-23 2008. The camp is for climbers and hikers aged 17 to 25 and the programme will be adjusted both to accommodate the beginners and the toughest and most experienced climbers.
The location is described as a climbing paradise near the impressive Red Lake, in the famous deep gorges sculptured in Mesozoic limestone rocks. There are over 200 climbing routes, bolted or classic, UIAA grade 3 to 10, 1 to 15 pitches, 15m to 300m high. There is still new routes potential, all grades.
Accommodation and meals will be at the Ecolog Hut (‘Cabana Ecolog’), altitude 700m, which is run by the Romanian Mountain Club. Activities will be led by experienced qualified instructors.
The programme will include at least four days climbing & hiking, one day of mountain walking/hiking/climbing in the Ceahlau Mt. natural park, alt.1907m, one day of (optional) cultural round trip to see the city of Piatra Neamt, the Moldavian mediaeval monasteries, the Bistrita valley and the 40 km long Bicaz Lake. It will also be possible to do mountain-biking, caving, horse-riding, fishing and swimming.
In addittion there will be oportunities to exchange experiences, discussions and seminars on the following isues: Mountain tourism, access and conservation, climbing techniques and specific important issues in different countries. Not to mention slide-shows, videos, expeditions presentations, songs, dancing, campfire and barbecues.
The cost is 200 Euros per participant for the entire programme, accommodation, full board and local transport. All participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult/team leader over 18. Federations must obtain parental consent for anyone under 18 years.
