An opportunity for sandstone climbing in the Czech Republic

14 Mar 2012

Sandstone climbing aficionados should take note that 31 March 2012 is the deadline for applying for a subsidized week long opportunity to climb in Adrspach, one of the most famous sandstone climbing areas in the Czech Republic.

The “highly subsidized” event organized by the Czech Mountaineering Federation (CMF) takes place between 16 September and 23 September 2012 and costs 100 € to 150 € depending on whether you want to sleep in a cabin or a hut. The cost includes all meals and accommodations. You just have to bring your own sleeping bag.

Application forms are due by 31 March 2012 and must be sent to info@horosvaz.cz

Participants have to make their own travel arrangements to the Czech Republic. The CMF says it will collect climbers on Sunday 16 September at the Prague airport or meet in Adrspach.

Climbers will be hosted by the Czech Republic’s best climbers and have a chance to tackle daring cracks and friction routes as well participate in evening talks and presentations.

Božena Valentová, one of the organizers of the event said that federations are recommended to send two climbers, ideally one male and one female, but more if there is tremendous interest from members.

Valentová, however, warns that if the meet is oversubscribed the number of places for each country might have to be reduced.

The Adrspach area has more than 3,000 routes that are as high as 100 metres and the soft rock formations require special techniques. They include a ban on chalk on easy routes and no hardware such as friends or nuts.
