Partners and resources

The UIAA is a member of the United Nations International Partnership for Sustainable Development in Mountain Regions. The UIAA helped to launch this partnership. It is possible to sign up for the monthly e-mail newsletter ‘Peak to Peak’

The UIAA works closely with the World Conservation Union (IUCN) to promote protected areas and access and conservation strategies for climbing. IUCN work to influence, encourage and assist societies throughout the world to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable.

World Commission on Protected Areas
The World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) is the world's premier network of protected area expertise. It is administered by IUCN's Programme on Protected Areas and has over 1,200 members, spanning 140 countries.

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
UNEP work to enable people to improve their quality of life through sustainable development.

International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD)
As a mountain learning and knowledge centre, ICIMOD seeks to develop and provide innovative solutions, in cooperation with over 300 regional and international partners, which foster action and change for overcoming mountain people's economic, social and physical vulnerability.

The Mountain Forum
The Mountain Forum promotes global action towards equitable and ecologically sustainable mountain development.

The Mountain Institute
Since 1972, The Mountain Institute has worked to conserve the world's high priority ecosystems, improve the life of mountain people, and increase awareness of mountain issues through advocacy, outreach and education.

Mountain Wilderness International
Mountain Wilderness is an international movement for the preservation of the mountain environment.

The Mountain Research Initiative  is a multidisciplinary scientific organisation that addresses global change issues in mountain regions around the world.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was established by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in 1988. The role of the IPCC is to assess on a comprehensive, objective, open and transparent basis the scientific, technical and socio-economic information relevant to understanding the scientific basis of risk of human-induced climate change. The IPCC was given the Nobel peace prize in 2007.
