DESCRIPTION:Celebrated on 11 December annually\, the United Nations’ International Mountain Day is an international observance day whose goal is to raise awareness about the role that mountainous regions play in the lives of people and their importance to our planet. \nThe theme of the 2024 event is: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMountain solutions for a sustainable future – innovation\, adaptation and youth \nOver centuries\, mountain communities have developed solutions to adapt to their harsh environments\, deal with climate change\, reduce poverty and protect or restore biodiversity. \nThis International Mountain Day 2024 (IMD 2024) focuses precisely on the capacity and needs of its people through a triple approach: “Mountain solutions for a sustainable future – innovation\, adaptation and youth.” \nInnovation is essential for addressing complex mountain-related issues. It encompasses technological advancements as well as creative problem-solving such as climate-smart agriculture. \nWhile dealing with climate change’s pressures on mountains\, adaptation becomes imperative for building resilience and reducing vulnerability. Adaptation strategies include solutions such as ecosystem-based approaches to disaster risk reduction and the integration of Indigenous knowledge systems. \nLastly\, the active participation of youth is essential for ensuring the long-term sustainability of mountain solutions. SUMMARY:2024 Beginners Drytooling and Ice Climbing Camp
DESCRIPTION:The UIAA Ice Climbing Governing Group and the UIAA Youth Commission have come together to put on a beginner ice climbing and drytooling camp to be held in Brno\, Czech Republic from the 11-13 October 2024.  \nThis camp is ideal for climbers from UIAA member federations who are interested in learning more about drytooling and ice climbing alongside other young climbers from around the world. \nThe camp will include basic instruction on footwork and the use of ice axes and attendees will get to climb a variety of beginner drytooling routes and can rapidly progress up to competition level moves and routes.  \nThis camp will be run alongside a UIAA Ice Climbing World Tour Youth Training Camp so participants will get to learn to drytool alongside some of the best young ice climbers in the world. Please note that this camp is a learn to drytooling/ice climbing\, and will require participants to have a basic knowledge of rock climbing either indoors or outdoors (the UIAA will not be able to instruct the basics of climbing).  \nThe three days of training will be directed through the Czech Mountaineering Association on the world famous structure in Brno that has played host to the UIAA Ice Climbing Continental Cup for the past five seasons.  \nPlease refer to the information below and links to the registration form. SUMMARY:Chamonix UIAA Autumn Camp
DESCRIPTION:A UIAA youth camp will be held in Chamonix\, France from 8-18 September. The event is organised by the Romanian Alpine Club. \nThe main purpose of the camp is to acquire basic techniques in various terrains: rock(classic and traditional)\, glacier trekking\, mixed terrain\, crevasse rescue. \nLocation: To be determined (TBD)\, Chamonix area (for instance UCPA Chamonix)\nStaff: Cosmin Andron UIAGM Guide\, Cristina Pogacean UIAGM Guide\nParticipants: Young people aged 18-30. Maximum 8 spots\, of which 2 are reserved for CAR (Romanian Alpine Club).\nRequirements: Participants must be familiar with basic knots\, anchors\, movement with crampons and ice axe.\nInsurance: Participants must provide proof of valid insurance for accidents\, rescue\, travel\, and third-party liability. Insurance will be checked upon arrival.\nEntry Documents: Participants are solely responsible for the validity of entry documents into France.\nPrice: 600 euros per participant\, an advance payment of 200 euros will be transferred via bank transfer to confirm registration. SUMMARY:EUSALP summer camp “Moving Mountains Together”
DESCRIPTION:A UIAA is sharing details of a summer camp taking place in Chalet de la Haute-Joux\, Cerniebaud\, France from 15-20 July. \nThe camp is being organise by Erasmus+\, EUSALP (EU strategy for the Alpine region)\, the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region and Concordia. \nThis exchange is being organised with 7 partner organisations based in the countries concerned by the EUSALP initiative\, which are the following : France\, Germany\, Italy\, Austria\, Slovenia\, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. The camp’s themes include climate change\, water management\, and local economy. \nThe organisers are looking for five participants per country\, including one group leader per country. The group will therefore comprise a total of 35 participants + two facilitators from France. The target group is young people from 18 to 30 years old\, from France\, Germany\, Italy\, Austria\, Slovenia\, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. Group leaders can be older than 30. Participants need to be motivated and interested in the topics tackled by the Youth exchange program. Good knowledge of English language would be useful to be able to participate actively in the exchange. \nThe activities of this Youth Exchange – Summer Camp project “Moving Mountains Together” will be meant to create an enriching environment for the youth groups from EUSALP countries for a meaningful and fun learning experience\, as non-formal education principles foresee. \nThe experience proposed will expect to lead young participants to : \n• discuss a range of key issues relating to the reality of life for youths in the Alps. The activities will be connected to the topics of Climate change focusing on water management and Quality of life focusing on local economy. \n• understand how EUSALP can open many opportunities for young people and share ideas to help shaping the future of the Alpine region thanks to youth participation ; \n• share about personal experiences and find commonalities among peers from different countries\, creating conditions where solidarity and cooperation are fostered and encouraged ; \nThe methodology (non-formal education\, meetings with professionals\, discussions) and the structure of the Youth Exchange will encourage an active involvement of each participant in order to develop competences and new tools for personal and social development. SUMMARY:International Youth Adventure Camp (Cyprus)
DESCRIPTION:The Third International Mountain Youth Camp of the Cyprus Mountaineering\, Climbing and Orienteering Federation\, C.M.C.O.F will take place between 15 and 20 July\, at the mountain hut of the new federation “Green Valley” in Kakopetria\, near Troodos. \n\n\nThe programme will include a variety of activities such as climbing\, mountaineering\, archery\, orienteering and lessons about mountain culture.  Children will be taught the safety rules of the above activities and will have the opportunity with the support of our instructors and guides to familiarise themselves with the sport of orienteering and acquire skills such as team building\, communication\, creativity \, friendliness\, self-confidence and cooperation both with other children and with nature. \nIf you are interested in registering for the youth camp\, registration will be open from 18 March until the hut space is fully booked. The price for booking all days is 420 euros. DESCRIPTION:Mountaineering Ireland will organise its annual Summer Alpine Meet from 14-21 July. \nAfter its last hugely popular and successful meet in Soelden in Austria\, the 2024 Mountaineering Ireland ‘Summer Alpine Meet’ is returning to the versatile and all-encompassing area of Ailefroide in the Dauphine Alps\, France. \nNestled at the foot of the Mont Pelvoux (3946 m) this beautiful\, small and rather quiet village is located in the 2nd largest French mountaineering area after Chamonix. The Dauphine Alps (meaning Dolphin) is one of France’s foremost areas for all mountain activities with three of France’s highest mountains outside of the Mont Blanc massif and many other fabulous peaks and glaciers. SUMMARY:International Youth Climbing Camp
DESCRIPTION:The annual UIAA Youth Climbing Camp in Ariège\, French Alps will take place from 6-11 July. The camp is organised by the Toulouse branch of the national French federation\, FFCAM. \nThe main goal of this Youth Climbing Camp is to practice numerous forms of climbing\, from one-pitch cliffs to long multi-pitch routes\, on different types of rock\, granite or limestone. \nA climbing certificate (skills for indoor climbing indoor\, one pitch\, multi-pitch) is be provided to climbers who meet the required course standards. It will be also possible to go canyoning and caving/speleology while some instructor training may be possible\, depending on level and experience. \nThe camp is open to young climbers from 16 to 25 years old. Participants should lead climb at a minimum of 5b (French grade). The organisers  will accept a maximum of three participants per national federation. Participants under 18 year old must be accompanied by an adult climber/coach\, who will be responsible for them during the camp. \n\n\n\nFor full details and to register please click here.

The event will dually stage a World Cup event and the biennial World Championships. \nThis will be an incredibly exciting city event held in downtown Edmonton\, close to the Oilers Ice Hockey stadium\, hosted by the Edmonton section of the Alpine Club of Canada. World champions in Lead and Speed will be crowned in this exciting new venue.
