UIAA JOINS DISCUSSIONS AT SPORTACCORD

Held from 5-10 May in Queensland, Australia, the 2019 edition of SportAccord welcomed a significant number of key players in the sport industry including host city partners, event organisers, tourism agencies, logistical suppliers, news and photograpy agencies, government offices as well as a significant number of international federations.

Represented by President Frits Vrijlandt, the UIAA was present throughout the six-day event discussing a wide variety of subjects from competition ice climbing, global advocacy to the UIAA’s projects in sustainability, where it has already contributed to a number of IOC-led initiatives regarding inter-federation collaboration on making sport more sustainable. Vrijlandt was also able to meet with senior officials to discuss steps for ice climbing to potentially become part of the official Olympic Winter Games programme as host city decisions develop for 2026.

“SportAccord is always an excellent opportunity to network and contribute to the current discussions and themes concerning the sporting world,” explained Vrijlandt. “It is also a great chance to share details of the UIAA’s current work with other federations and organisations, strengthening our network and developing new partnerships.”

The 2020 edition of Sport Accord will take place in Beijing, China from 19-24 April.
