UIAA lines up ‘Sport for All’ ice climbing event in Tignes

n collaboration with the famous French ski resort of Tignes and FFCAM (La Fédération française des clubs alpins et de montagne), the UIAA is organising a dedicated ice climbing event as part of a ‘Sport for All’ day on Sunday 24 April. The programme will allow members of the public to discover the sport before a special showcase in the late afternoon.

Throughout the day, resort visitors and mountain lovers will have the opportunity to try out ice climbing for the first time or freshen their skills while meeting top athletes in a typically convivial environment. The wall will be open to the public from 10:00 to 16:30.

The party atmosphere will continue into the evening with live concerts organised during the exhibition speed competition (17:30-18:30) which will pit a French team up against athletes from Switzerland and Lichtenstein. The initiative is further evidence of the UIAA’s commitment to the future of the sport following another successful UIAA Ice Climbing World Tour, supported by The North Face Korea, and a recent appearance at Lillehammer 2016 as a showcase event.

Furthermore, the UIAA recently published a dedicated PractICE climbing guide, aimed at those wishing to get involved in the sport, develop their skills or organise a team or event.
