Discussing climbing at ISPO Beijing

Featured

Following on from the UIAA’s presence at ISPO Munich in early February (read here), where it met with over twenty UIAA Safety Label holders, the federation was present at ISPO Beijing from 15-18 February.

ISPO Beijing is the leading multi-segment sports exhibition in Asia; and the one place where it all comes together: all the market players, the concentrated know-how and expertise, to pioneering innovations. The event is a major networking opportunity for the Asia-Pacific region.

Leading the UIAA delegation in Beijing was UIAA Ice Climbing Commission President Urs Stöcker, who spoke on a broad range of topics related to both rock climbing and ice climbing, under the presentation ‘Making climbing competitions more interesting for everybody’. This included discussing training techniques for ice climbing and rock climbing and their compatibility; promotion of the UIAA’s PractICE climbing guide (download here) – a rich resource for ice climbing competitors and organisers; as well as ice climbing’s ultimate Olympic ambition. Urs Stöcker also met with delegates from the Chinese Mountaineering Association (CMA), who recently organised a successful UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup event in the city.
