Works on Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari and all major browsers.

  1. Open your browser and go to mail.google.com โ€” or type gmail.com in the address bar, which redirects to the same page.

  2. On the sign-in page, enter your Gmail address (e.g. yourname@gmail.com) in the email field and click Next.

  3. Enter your Gmail password on the next screen. Make sure Caps Lock is off. Click Next to sign in.

  4. If you have 2-Step Verification enabled, Google will send a 6-digit code to your phone or prompt you via the Google app. Enter the code to complete sign-in.

  5. You are now signed in. Your Gmail inbox will load automatically at mail.google.com/mail/.

๐Ÿ’ก Stay signed in: Tick Stay signed in on the sign-in screen to avoid logging in each time. Only do this on personal devices โ€” never on shared or public computers.
โœ… Signed in successfully? Your inbox is ready. You can also access Google Drive, Google Docs and YouTube using the same Google account.

Works on all Android phones and tablets. Gmail app is pre-installed on most Android devices.

  1. Open the Gmail app on your Android device. If not installed, download it free from the Google Play Store.

  2. Tap Add an email address if no account is set up, or tap your profile picture at the top right and select Add another account.

  3. Select Google from the list of account types.

  4. Enter your Gmail address and tap Next.

  5. Enter your password and tap Next. Complete any 2-Step Verification prompt if enabled.

  6. Tap I agree to accept Google’s terms and your Gmail inbox will open immediately.

๐Ÿ’ก Multiple accounts: You can add multiple Gmail accounts on Android. Tap your profile picture in the Gmail app to switch between them.
๐Ÿ’ก Gmail not installed? Search for “Gmail” in the Play Store. It’s free and made by Google.

Works on iPhone and iPad. Use the Gmail app or Apple Mail.

Method 1 โ€” Gmail App (Recommended)

  1. Download the Gmail app from the App Store if not already installed. Search “Gmail” โ€” it’s free from Google LLC.

  2. Open the Gmail app and tap Sign in.

  3. Tap Google and then tap Continue to allow the app to open the sign-in page.

  4. Enter your Gmail address, tap Next, enter your password, tap Next.

  5. Complete any 2-Step Verification prompt. Your Gmail inbox will load.

Method 2 โ€” Apple Mail App

  1. Go to Settings on your iPhone โ†’ scroll down and tap Mail.

  2. Tap Accounts โ†’ Add Account โ†’ select Google.

  3. Enter your Gmail address and password. Tap Next and sign in.

  4. Toggle on Mail (and any other Google services you want to sync) and tap Save.

  5. Open the Mail app โ€” your Gmail will appear as a separate inbox.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: The Gmail app gives you full access to all Gmail features including labels, filters and Google Meet. Apple Mail is simpler but missing some Gmail-specific features.
๐Ÿ”‘ Forgot Gmail Password โ€” How to Reset It

If you’ve forgotten your Gmail password, use Google’s password recovery tool. You’ll need access to your recovery phone number or recovery email address.

  1. Go to accounts.google.com/signin/recovery โ€” this is Google’s official account recovery page.

  2. Enter your Gmail address and click Next. Click Forgot password? when prompted.

  3. Choose your recovery method โ€” Google will offer to send a code to your recovery phone number, recovery email address, or push a notification to a signed-in device.

  4. Enter the 6-digit verification code sent to your chosen recovery method. Codes expire in 10 minutes.

  5. Create a new password โ€” use at least 8 characters with uppercase, lowercase, numbers and a symbol. Avoid reusing old passwords.

  6. Sign in with your new password. Your account is fully recovered.

๐Ÿ’ก No recovery options? Go to the recovery page and answer Google’s identity questions from a device and location you normally use โ€” this significantly improves approval chances. Google uses device history and IP location to verify identity.
โš ๏ธ Account locked? After too many failed attempts Google temporarily locks your account. Wait 1โ€“24 hours then try again, or use the recovery page to verify your identity and unlock immediately.
๐Ÿ“ฑ Gmail 2-Step Verification โ€” Sign In With 2FA

If you have 2-Step Verification (2FA) enabled on your Gmail account, you’ll need to complete an extra verification step after entering your password.

๐Ÿ“ฑ
SMS Code
Google sends a 6-digit code by text message to your registered phone number. Enter it on the verification screen.
๐Ÿ””
Google Prompt
A notification appears on your signed-in Android or iPhone. Tap Yes to approve the sign-in attempt.
๐Ÿ”
Authenticator App
Open Google Authenticator or another TOTP app and enter the 6-digit rotating code shown for your Gmail account.
๐Ÿ—๏ธ
Backup Codes
Each backup code is single-use. Use one by clicking Try another way โ†’ Use backup code on the verification screen.
๐Ÿ’ก 2FA code not working? Wait 2 minutes and request a new code. If using Google Authenticator, resync the time: Settings โ†’ Time correction for codes โ†’ Sync now. Or click Try another way to use a different 2FA method.

โ“ Frequently Asked Questions
The official Gmail login page is mail.google.com. You can also go to gmail.com which automatically redirects to the same sign-in page. Always make sure the URL shows accounts.google.com on the sign-in screen to avoid phishing sites.
You can sign in to Gmail without a password using Google Passkeys โ€” a newer, more secure method using your device’s biometrics (fingerprint or face ID). To set up passkeys, go to myaccount.google.com/security โ†’ Passkeys โ†’ Create a passkey. Once set up, you can sign in by scanning your fingerprint or face instead of typing a password.
Yes. On the Gmail sign-in screen, tick Stay signed in before clicking Next. Your session will stay active until you manually sign out or Google detects suspicious activity. Only use this option on your personal device โ€” never on shared, work, or public computers.
Click your profile picture at the top right of Gmail โ†’ click Add another account โ†’ enter the second Gmail address and password. You can switch between multiple Gmail accounts by clicking your profile picture and selecting the account you want.
Common causes: outdated Gmail app, internet connection issue, or account sync disabled. Fix: update the Gmail app from the Play Store or App Store, check your connection, and remove and re-add your Google account in Settings โ†’ Accounts โ†’ Google. If the problem persists, clear the Gmail app cache (Android: Settings โ†’ Apps โ†’ Gmail โ†’ Storage โ†’ Clear Cache).
Go to myaccount.google.com/security โ†’ scroll down to Your devices โ†’ click Manage all devices โ†’ select each device and click Sign out. You can also scroll to the bottom of any Gmail inbox, click Details (last account activity), and click Sign out all other web sessions.
Yes. Gmail is completely free to use. Signing in to Gmail requires only a Google account, which is also free to create. Google offers 15 GB of free storage shared across Gmail, Google Drive and Google Photos. Paid plans (Google One) are available for more storage but are not required to use Gmail.
Go to accounts.google.com/signin/recovery and follow the identity verification steps. Use a device and network you normally use for that account โ€” Google uses device history and location to verify your identity. Answer all questions as accurately as possible. If you have no recovery options at all, submit Google’s identity verification form and wait for a manual review (can take 1โ€“7 business days).
