The organisers at O’Bloc in Bern, Switzerland put on a great show for the opening event of the 2018-19 UIAA Ice Climbing World Tour on Saturday 24 November. The first of the four European Cup Series proved a successful and popular meet with competitors coming from Canada, several European countries including France, Finland, Slovenia as well as a strong Swiss team.
“It was great to see everyone enjoying the atmosphere and getting involved in the circuit and we hope to evolve this into a Continental Cup Series in Asia and North America in the near future. The UIAA thanks the great team at O’Bloc for an outstanding event,” explains UIAA Sports Event Coordinator Rob Adie. The circuit continues next weekend in Domzale, Slovenia, the weekend after in Zilina, Slovakia and concludes in March in Oulu, Finland shortly after the UIAA Ice Climbing World Youth Championships at the same venue.
Top performer in Bern was Swiss athlete Sina Goetz in the female competition and Louna Ladevant, France, in the male competition.
