On 5 December, the UIAA is celebrating the annual United Nations’ International Volunteer Day (IVD). This year’s theme is “Every Contribution Matters“. Volunteer expertise, dedication and support is at the heart of everything the UIAA does and is present across all of its key areas, initiatives and projects. Nearly 200 volunteers from over 50 countries are on the Executive Committee, Management Board, Commissions and working groups, World Ice Climbing Board and UIAA Court. To mark the occasion, the UIAA wishes to celebrate its volunteers and extend a huge thank you for their commitment. Below is a message of thanks from UIAA President, Peter Muir:
Dear Members of the UIAA Community,
On the occasion of International Volunteer Day, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all of you who devote your time, energy, and expertise to our global mountaineering community. Your commitment strengthens our federation, supports our mission, and ensures that the traditions and values of our sport continue to flourish.
The UIAA relies on the dedication of volunteers across every board, committee, commission, working group, and project. Your efforts, often carried out quietly and without recognition, make a meaningful difference to climbers and mountaineers around the world. For this, you have my deepest appreciation.
Thank you for everything you do, and for the spirit of service that defines our community.
With gratitude,
With warm regards and appreciation,
Peter Muir
