LATIN AMERICA RESCUE PROTOCOL DURING COVID-19

UIAA

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, mountain and rescue specialists from all over Latin America have met to develop a protocol for emergency action in mountain areas. The UIAA has been represented in several of these meetings by its Management Committee/South America Continental Representative Martin Lascano (FASA, Argentina). Kika Bradford, President of the Confederação Brasileira de Montanhismo d Escalada (CBME), UIAA full member in Brazil, also contributed to the guidance.

The document – produced under the umbrella of the Comité Iberoamericano de Seguridad y Medicina de Montaña – has been created for countries in South and Central America where there are very few professionally organised mountain rescue groups, and in several countries accident support is reliant on volunteer mountaineers and/or search and rescue commissions from mountaineering and climbing clubs. However much of the guidance provided in the document may also be applicable to other countries and regions.

The document intended for rescue organisations was produced in Spanish with an English translation available here.
