The UIAA is proud to reward those who promote responsible rock climbing. Ever since its foundation in 1932, the UIAA has supported and developed mountain sports and rock climbing in parallel with its commitment to protecting the environment in which they are practised. High mountains, big walls, bouldering, ski mountaineering, ice climbing and rock climbing; these are all activities in the DNA of the UIAA and run in parallel to its commitment to sustainable practices.

The UIAA Rock Climbing Festival Award, ran from 2015-2019 on a continental rotation. In 2024, with its identification as one of the federation’s seven Strategic Priorities, the commitment to rock climbing was reinforced. This includes first steps: creation of a calendar of rock climbing festivals (see below), guidelines for rock climbing festivals and potentially the return of the Award itself.

Calendar of global rock climbing festivals

The events featuring in the calendar and map view below have been selected by the UIAA Rock Climbing Working Group to appear on the UIAA’s annual calendar of rock climbing festivals worldwide. The main criteria being that the festivals are open to international climbers. To submit your festival for consideration please email UIAA News.
