The UIAA is delighted to announce the appointment of its new Director of Operations.

Nils Glatthard, a Swiss national based in Meiringen in the Bernese Oberland Alps, began full-time in the role on 10 July, 2017.

A member of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC), Nils comes from a strong mountaineering lineage. His father founded the Mountaineering School of Meiringen, and today one of his three sons, Yannick, competes as an ice climber.

Nils has a strong and significant background in management, communication and marketing. He holds a degree in Tourism and Travel Management from the University of St Gallen and possesses vast experience from his time working in an international environment for tourism associations and in the organization and delivery of sport events, principally mountain-based ones.

His mother tongue is German, he also speaks English and French.

In his new role, Nils will manage and coordinate the UIAA Office in Bern; assist the work of the UIAA Commissions in implementing the projects identified in the UIAA Strategic Plan 2017-2020; become the principal liaison between core UIAA entities – staff, Executive Board, Commission presidents and the Management Committee as well as with member federations; assist the accountant and treasurer in the preparation of budgets and financial reports; prepare and deliver sponsor proposals; and manage core UIAA events and meetings.

“I am excited to contribute to the development and evolution of the UIAA,” explains Nils Glatthard. “I see great potential in the federation’s three core pillars of activity – safety, sport and sustainability – and am enthusiastic about working with the UIAA community, and notably our member federations, as a whole.”

The UIAA welcomes Nils to his new role!
