2015 UIAA World Championship in Rabenstein, Italy from UIAA – Climbing & Mountaineering on Vimeo.
The UIAA Ice Climbing Commission met recently in Seoul Korea for its annual meeting.
A key decision made at the meeting hosted by the Korean Alpine Federation was approval of a motion to make the UIAA Ice Climbing World Championship a separate event from the UIAA Ice Climbing World Tour.
The UIAA Ice Climbing World Championship is currently held once every two years and part of the UIAA Ice Climbing World Tour.
In 2015 the World Championship for the Lead (Difficulty) competition was held in Rabenstein, Italy while the Speed competition was held in Kirov, Russia, as part of the World Cup.
The decision by the Commission is part of the effort to raise the profile of the World Championship in Speed and Lead, where winners get to call themselves World Champions for a two-year-period.
The 2015 Lead (Difficulty) World Championship was won by WoonSeon Shin of South Korea and Maxim Tomilov of Russia in Rabenstein, Italy. The Speed competition was won by Ekaterina Koshcheeva and Alexey Vagin in Kirov, Russia.
