Youth ice climbers to take centre stage

Youth

There is one final act in the 2017 UIAA Ice Climbing season, partnered by The North Face Korea.

A week on from the biennial UIAA Ice Climbing World Championships, the famed ice tower of Champagny-en-Vanoise, France will host the Youth World Championships. The event is an important component of the UIAA’s commitment to not only ice climbing but youth participation in climbing and mountaineering as a whole.

Action starts tomorrow, Friday 10 February and concludes on Saturday 11 February. Competitions take place in U16, U19 and U22 categories in both lead and speed.

The event programme can be downloaded here.

Some 71 athletes from nine countries will participate including the likes of Canada’s Noah Beek and Switzerland’s Yannick Glatthard who excelled in the season proper. Glatthard was silver medalist in the lead discipline at last week’s World Championships.
